Megan Smillie - School Counselor
School Counseling Philosophy
All students can learn intellectually, emotionally, and socially through learned responsibility and the idea that every person has dignity and worth. A comprehensive school counseling program provides access to these objectives through classroom lessons, small-group counseling, and one-to-one meetings. These methods help to support academic development, career understanding, and personal/social skills. I work with all students as well as their parents/guardians, teachers, administrators, and the community through the process of encouragement, collaboration, and cooperation to support the student's current and future success.
School Counselors Provide Services For:
Students
o Deliver support with conflict resolution, peer relationships, self-concept, and family relationships
o Provide access to Academic and Career Planning services and goal setting
o Make appropriate referrals for services within the school and community
o Guide students with academic support, career development, and personal/social education
Families
o Communicate and exchange information with parents (confidentiality permitting) via conferences, parent education workshops, and newsletters
o Provide consultation with parents to facilitate their student's school attendance, academic achievement, and personal growth
Teachers
o Consult with teachers regarding student academic achievement, social development, and future plans
o Coordinate Academic and Career Planning lessons that are administered by teachers during Rocket Block bi-weekly
o Support teachers with Rocket Block student mentoring and student SMART goals
o Facilitate parent/teacher meetings
